This is a Crime?

I have BBC News headlines in my Twitter updates, and of course that ever so buzzy buzzword sex appeared so I clicked…

Michelle Palmer, 36, of Oakham, Rutland, and Vince Acors, 34, of Bromley, south-east London, were arrested on 5 July.

The pair denied charges of public indecency and having unmarried sex, but admitted consuming alcohol.

Michelle Palmer, 36, of Oakham, Rutland, and Vince Acors, 34, of Bromley, south-east London, were arrested on 5 July.

The pair denied charges of public indecency and having unmarried sex, but admitted consuming alcohol.

The pair were arrested on Jumeirah Beach hours after meeting at a champagne brunch at the five-star Le Meridien hotel.

A police officer told Dubai’s Court of First Instance he had warned them about their inappropriate behaviour, but returned later to find them have sex on a sun lounger.

Miss Palmer, who has been sacked from her job in Dubai as a publishing executive, said in a statement they were “just kissing and hugging”.

“Public indecency” I can maybe understand, but unmarried sex? When I think of backwards, antiquated thinking about sexual decency one thing floats to mind… r-e-l-i-g-i-o-n.

Hm… Dubai is in a Muslim country and theocracies tend to get touchy about the sex lives of ordinary citizens…

I wonder…

I was in Dubai while in the Navy during Ramadan, and they were more than wiling to serve us food during the day, which is apparently a big no-no. We were told that we didn’t have to follow Islamic laws if we weren’t Islamic, kinda like the Inquisition was with the Jews.
